FIFA World Cup Prize Money in 2026

The evolution of the FIFA World Cup format reflects the tournament’s growth from a modest invitational event in 1930, into a truly global spectacle. The 2026 FIFA World Cup was the largest edition yet, featuring more teams, more matches, and more host nations than ever before. Prize money has also risen dramatically, with the total prize pool in 2026 increasing by 50% compared to the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

2026 World Cup Prize Money (in millions of US dollars)

A total of USD 655 million was paid out as prize money among the 48 participating teams in 2026, divided up as follows:

• Winners: USD 50 million
• Runners-up: USD 33 million
• 3rd place: USD 29 million
• 4th place: USD 27 million
• 5th-8th place: USD 19 million
• 9th-16th place: USD 15 million
• 17th- 32nd place: USD 11 million
• 33rd-48th place: USD 9 million

Notes:

• In addition to the figures above, each qualified team will receive USD 1.5 million to cover preparation costs. This means that all teams will receive at least 10.5 million USD.
