Winter Paralympic Games Disability Categories
Athletes compete in six broad impairment categories at the Winter Paralympics, the same categories are used at the Summer Paralympics. Within each category, athletes are further classified according to the severity of their impairment so they compete against others with a similar level of ability. However, not every sport includes classes for all impairment categories.
- Amputees
- Cerebral palsy
- Intellectual disability / mentally handicapped
- Spinal cord injury / wheelchair
- Visually impaired
- Les Autres (meaning 'the others'), including athletes with motor disability, dwarfism, multiple sclerosis, and congenital disorders) blind runners at the 2012 London Paralympics
