Perfectly Named Olympic Athletes

Some athletes train their whole lives for Olympic glory, others seem like they were born for it, at least judging by their names. Here are ten Olympians whose names are almost too perfect (and sometimes too funny) for their sport.

possibly the most perfectly named athlete ever - Usain Bolt

  1. Usain Bolt (Athletics – Sprinting) — Quite possibly the most perfectly named athlete ever, built for speed in every sense.
  2. Olympia Aldersey (Rowing) — Competing at the Olympics with the name “Olympia” feels like destiny fulfilled.
  3. Jeff Float (Swimming) — A gold medalist who, unsurprisingly, had no trouble staying afloat.
  4. Walter Bathe (Swimming) — Bathing and swimming go hand in hand—this one was inevitable.
  5. Anna Smashnova (Tennis) — A name made for powerful groundstrokes and big winners.
  6. James Jett (Athletics – Relay) — Perfect for sprinting—he practically “jets” down the track.
  7. Eugene Swift (Athletics – Hurdles) — Speed is in the name, and clearly in the legs too.
  8. Ernst Fast (Athletics – Marathon) — When your surname is Fast, expectations are high over 42km.
  9. Jeff Spear (Fencing) — About as close as you can get to naming the weapon itself.
  10. Martin Rush (Race Walking) — Race walking isn’t known for rushing… but his name says otherwise.
